Does it worth for $34/month ? http://www.dreamhostps.com/
Are there similar services in the web?

Dreamhost is known to over sell their capacity. Do some (Google) researching for "VPS" - virtual private server, which will be more like $75/mo. Another options is a dedicated server, which runs about $300/mo.

Anyone else? I too am considering Dreamhost PS.
Geohelper - DreamhostPS is new, so there isn't really any precedent for that. I assume that they are not overselling this as you are guaranteed a certain amount of processor time and RAM, and they couldn't guarantee this without actually having it available. My understanding is that this is a VPS.

I use slicehost.com - was an interesting process getting everything installed and configured the way i want it, but performance has been good and it's cheap. Not really an option for people who want it easy ![]()

how many users does your app have ... I am looking for to upgrade to PS as well, but need to support 150k users.

I would NEVER put anything mission critical on Dreamhost's network. The number of meltdowns they've had since summer 2006 is ridiculous. Their network is poorly managed.
Look into a VPS at ServInt.net. Their availability and customer service is quite good and they do NOT oversell their machines. VPSes there start at $49/mo and I'm very happy with mine. Well, except for the fact that it runs CentOS and not a decent Linux distro, but I've managed to deal with it fine so far.

I use their VPS and it's pretty good. You actually adjust the capacity you need yourself and the price is based on that.

I also use a dreamhost VPS and dreamhost MySQL VPS, and they've been getting the job done.

The servers might be good, but the network isn't. Yet more problems just today.

Yeldarb, users per day is currently around 10k, was working fine over 25k though. "My Personality" is a kind of quiz app, so you have an idea from that what kind of SQL usage it has - not sure if you define it as "intensive" or not though.
Problem with the Dreamhost VPS servers is that you have to wait for a while (I waited for months, and then they only did it because my app was taking down the rest of the server) for them to set it up for you.

Yeah, I requested a VPS, and it took them months too. Then they started blocking my apps because of the traffic and it was a huge mess. If they just set up the VPS when I asked, there would have been no problem.

I think someone already mentioned on this thread - slicehost. It took less than 5 mins (closer to 2) to setup my VPS. Just amazing. You get a barebones linux install, which than I configured using their very well written tutorial. So far quite happy. Still need to see how it will handle under load.

Does anyone have recent experience with the DreamHost private servers?
We've recently switched from a different VPS and we're finding the DreamHost one very slow in comparison.
Also, we've had several outages.
Not impressed at all so far.

@David
Actualy I have a groving app and now it is out of limits of dreamhost shared hosting.
You mention that you can handle your busy app with dreamhost PS. Now I am about to switch to PS but have some questions in my mind.
Should I use DreamHost PS (web server) , (mysql) or both for my forum like application wich have monthly 70K active users? And how much memory do you think will be enough.
Thank you sooooo much for help.
