I signed up on CBS Sportline and joined fantasy football. I got a pop-up on the bottom right. It looks like the old beacon stuff. I thought that didn't work anymore, but it published a story to the homepage. I didn't go through any kind of connect log in, it must have used the facebook cookie somehow.

It is definitely Beacon: http://staynalive.com/articles/2008/09/ … ed-beacon/

Since late 2007, Beacon has been available on dozens of participating sites after we made a series of improvements to ensure that users have control over what information is shared to their friends on Facebook. We are not accepting new developers into the program, and this is not using Facebook Connect.

Is the Beacon program still closed to new developers? If still closed, is there a way to stay up to date on when the program may open again?

Yes, the Beacon program is permanently closed, and all functionality has been subsumed by Connect.

I'm looking at Kongregate as a good example of beacon usage. Example: http://www.kongregate.com/games/WeirdBe … /99-bricks
Play the game for a while and it pops up a beacon dialog offering to share a story for it on FB.
I like the way the dialogs work there. Simple and nonintrusive. With connect, this wouldn't work. The popup would end up blocking the game content.
Any possibility to change the style of that popup dialog, or just reposition it?

Agreed, the continual popups ruin the usage of Connect.

We certainly welcome any enhancements you might suggest in bugs.developers.facebook.com with respect to the experience of Connect. As with any product, we're constantly looking for a way to offer developers like yourself powerful tools without compromising the privacy and user experience for Facebook users.
