Face recognition - Facebook application

Hi All,

We've just released a new application which allows you to find people using recognition, recognise and auto-tag your friends on your photos, etc.

First beta is already there - http://apps.facebook.com/myfaceid/. At the moment it processes all your photos, finds and crops faces, uploads them back to your profile and helps you with tagging.
We are finalizing recognition part and will enable it in a few days.

We would like to know what you think, are any other features related to face recognition you would like to have in such application?

Thanks!

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

I hope you did not name it "Face Recognition" or have Face in any part of the name because it will get denied to the directory for infringing on Facebook's trademark according to the ToS.

Yep, you won't get it past the ToS police with "Face" in the app name.

Also, your post-install landing page is butt ugly (sorry, but it is).  You've got a large page of text with no margins (none of which your average user will read) and some may mistake for an error page.  Can I suggest you put some images on there (some faces maybe!?) and make it more friendly to the average user.

Also, don't require both to login and then to install. Just one or the other is fine. If the Face recognition works for Facebook photos on a global scale, that would be a very good app!!!

We named it MyFaceID, like application website, which looks like still accebtable by facebook since "face" is not going first. TOS is not very clear about that and explicitly states only Face[something] application name.

Besides - there are other applications in directory with "Face" in the name, and even at the beginning of the name, so I don't really know how it is applied.

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

The face-recognition application will be a big step if it does what Mr OK claim.

More, it will require a lot of processing, as i read in Image Processing course.

Good Job...

Thanks for your feedback! Text page is just temporary, we want to put face similarity search gui on main app page, which will be ready hopefully in a few days, and will move text in separate about page.

What do you mean by both login and install? I am afraid I missing something in the API, is it a setting?

Sorry, but this advice is not good for many scenarios.
like for example if your application landing page is outside of facebook.

I know it was discussed many times but still...

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

Hi All,

We've just added face similarity search GUI to MyFaceID http://apps.facebook.com/myfaceid/. We are still finalizing part that allow you to add yourself into search results. Auto-tagging is on the way as well.

Please tell us what you think about this search GUI, thanks!

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

There was a minor bug in registration procedure (today registrations only), please check if you have "Error: Invalid session" message at MyFaceID application front page then remove application and add it again to fix the problem.

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

We have just added automatic composite face calculation, if you tagged yourself at least at 5 photos somewhere in your albums you should see this composite (average) face at MyFaceID http://apps.facebook.com/myfaceid/ application page.

Re: Face recognition - Facebook application

Hi All!

We have changed the application logic.

You will no longer have cropped faces uploaded to your album and your friends will not get tagging notifications. T

emporarily you can click on "MyFaceID website" in application menu and then on "My Faces" and tag faces there. We are working now to pull in tagging interface directly on Facebook. If someone still would like to have cropped faces in their album we can make it as opt-in option.

Also you can finalyy add yourself to the search results, you can do that on the "My Profile" tab!

Please give it a try and tell us what you think, thanks!
